— 03 / Process
The division of responsibility is the product. You always know who supplies, who wires, and who answers when the look needs to change.
Site walk, facade study, and a lighting design with fixture schedule, photometrics on request, and a fixed quote. We map your calendar of looks — seasons, holidays, awareness dates, brand colours.
LUMUMENT sources and bench-tests every DMX512/RDM fixture before it ships to site — addressed, labelled, and verified against the design. CSA/cETL-certified options specified for Ontario ESA compliance.
All hardwired installation is performed by a Licensed Electrical Contractor (ECRA/ESA) — yours or one we coordinate. LUMUMENT never performs hardwired electrical work. We support the EC with drawings, addressing maps, and on-site commissioning.
We commission the system and program every look: building hours, astronomical-clock schedules, seasons, holidays, awareness colours. On a managed retainer, we keep it current year-round — you never touch a controller.

Not a generic catalogue. These are named products from the lines we specify, each matched by hand to a job specification — a memorial is not lit like a bridge, and neither is lit like a media facade. Certification wording is quoted from each manufacturer's own documents; every line is available through Canadian distribution (Signify Canada, LumiGroup, Erikson Pro, Pharos Canada), and full spec sheets and photometrics ride along with your design package.

— 10 / Government & Institutions
We help municipalities and heritage organizations transform monuments and historic landmarks into year-round community assets — through energy-efficient architectural lighting that supports tourism, civic events, and cultural celebrations. Not fixtures for their own sake: outcomes a council, a board, or a minister can stand behind.
LUMUMENT is set up to respond to RFQs and RFPs, supply through standing offers, and support buyers on CanadaBuys. Tell us the vehicle you're using and we'll meet you there.
Fixture spec sheets, photometrics (IES files), and control-system architecture provided on request — formatted to drop into your tender or standing-offer language.
CSA/cETL-certified fixture options specified for ESA compliance. All hardwired installation is performed by a Licensed Electrical Contractor (ECRA/ESA) — a division of responsibility procurement officers can defend.
We design with the National Capital Commission's Capital Illumination Plan in mind — dignified everyday scenes, coordinated awareness colours, and respect for the night sky and neighbouring institutions.
EN/FR documentation, commissioning, and support for federal, provincial, and municipal clients.
The strongest candidates share three things: a need for public presentation, a budget line for capital improvement — restoration, downtown revitalization, tourism, smart-city or energy-efficiency work already underway — and an iconic asset people already recognize.
The more photographed and visited a place is, the easier the lighting investment is to justify — to funders, to council, and to the public.
The strongest niche
Memorials need respectful, programmable light for Remembrance Day, national holidays, awareness campaigns and civic ceremonies — without altering the structure itself. DMX control delivers exactly that: dignified warm white most nights, the right colour on the right date, and nothing drilled, painted or permanently changed to get there.
It is rarely colours and effects. It is operating cost, upkeep, safety, community return, and respect for the place. Every LUMUMENT proposal is written against these five — scored on best value, not lowest bid.
LED over legacy floodlighting, with the numbers shown up front: fixture power consumption, expected utility savings, astronomical-clock scheduling and curfew dimming — so the operating case is in the file, not just the capital case.
Long-life fixtures, remote monitoring and fault reporting (DMX/RDM), attic-stock spares, and fewer bucket-truck visits. A managed calendar means staff never climb, re-aim or re-programme by hand.
Better nighttime visibility and wayfinding around civic spaces, entrances and waterfronts — and the increased perception of security that comes with a place that is visibly cared for after dark.
Tourism, civic pride and a 365-day event calendar from one system: Canada Day, Remembrance Day, national holidays, awareness campaigns and cultural celebrations — programmed once, recalled automatically.
Appropriate brightness for the setting, precise optics and glare control, light-pollution limits and dark-sky compliance where applicable — landmark presence without spill into residences or the sky.
We monitor and respond through CanadaBuys, PSPC and Parks Canada postings, National Capital Commission work, MERX, Bids & Tenders, and municipal portals across Ottawa, Gatineau, Toronto, Kingston and Hamilton — including lighting scopes inside broader heritage restoration projects.
Large projects need support from several stakeholders. We supply each of them what they actually review — technical files for engineering, certification and compliance for procurement, energy and maintenance numbers for facilities, and renderings for councils, boards and the public.
01
You don't need a tender to start. We identify an underlit landmark and show — in a professional before-and-after rendering — what it could look like lit. A compelling vision is often what gets a project funded in the first place.
02
A single memorial, a municipal sign, a historic clock tower or one park feature. One well-executed project, documented properly, becomes the reference every larger conversation points back to.
03
Full fixture schedule, programming and commissioning, staff training, and a managed calendar — scoped in writing, with design, project management, programming, testing, training and heritage contingency all itemised. Nothing is left to be discovered mid-project.
Credibility, without inventing a track record: professional lighting designs and concept renderings, energy-savings estimates, DMX programming demonstrations, certified fixture files, warranty coverage in writing, long-term support, and installation by a licensed electrical partner — lighting design and controls by LUMUMENT, installation by the LEC of record.
— 11 / Questions
A Licensed Electrical Contractor (ECRA/ESA) — always. LUMUMENT never performs hardwired electrical work. We supply bench-tested fixtures, addressing maps and drawings, then commission and program the system alongside the electrician. You can use your own EC or we can coordinate one.
We specify CSA or cETL-certified fixture options so the installation passes ESA inspection. Certification documents and spec sheets are included with your design package.
Yes. RGBW fixtures are calibrated on-site against your brand standards — we tune by eye and by meter at night, then lock the values into the controller so the colour is identical every time it's recalled.
DMX/RDM systems report faults, so we usually know before you do. Designs include spare capacity and recommended attic stock; on a managed retainer, replacement is coordinated for you — the electrical swap is done by the Licensed Electrical Contractor.
Everyday architectural scenes use precise optics, glare shields, curfew dimming and astronomical-clock schedules. Special-event sky beams are a separately assessed spectacle scope, subject to site safety and aviation approvals. For civic projects we work within the NCC's Capital Illumination context.
Everything is programmed once into the controller's calendar — seasons, holidays, awareness dates, brand moments — and recalled automatically. On a retainer, we update and add looks year-round; you never touch the controller.
Ottawa–Gatineau is home. We take on larger projects across Ontario, and supply-plus-programming engagements elsewhere in Canada case by case.
Typical landmark projects are $25,000+. Managed plan anchors are Essential $599/mo, Managed $1,450/mo and Landmark $3,950/mo. Laser design/programming starts at $1,800/day; Art-Net/sACN design starts at $2,500/site. All amounts are CAD. Final scope and price are confirmed once, in writing, after assessment.
Yes, and that is often the best time. We prepare a concept rendering and a scoped, itemised proposal for an underlit landmark before procurement exists. That vision goes into capital planning, grant and revitalization discussions, and — when a tender is written — into the technical language it is written around.
The total scope, not just the fixtures: equipment (fixtures, controllers, power supplies, networking, mounting hardware), design time, project management, programming, installation supervision with the licensed electrical contractor, testing and commissioning, staff training, insurance and overhead — plus a stated contingency for what historic buildings hide: old wiring, structural limits and heritage restrictions. You see every line before you approve anything.
Yes — that is the recommended entry point for many municipalities. A single war memorial, municipal sign, historic clock tower or park feature proves the quality, the process and the public response on a contained budget, and becomes the documented reference for the larger system that follows.
